Save the pomade for when your hair doesn't lay down.

Grease is used for hold.

Remember in science class you learned about substances that where hydrophobic/hydrophilic. What that refers to is a substances orientation to water. Moisturizers are hydrophilic and bond readily with water. That is good because it makes your hair soft and easy to train.

Oil is hydrophobic and repels water. Which may not be the best because; your hair roots, shaft and follicles need moisture to counteract the intense beating that you are doing with that brush. When you use oil, use it sparingly.

You can use pomade if you want. Don't let a forum full of opinions dictate your actions...
The best way to gain knowledge is by experience. Try them both out and see how it works for you

man i started out using products wit petroleum and that got me waves on top and a starting out pattern on the bak and sides. then i moved 2 cc and oc and doo gro and pink. but if u wash yo hair like every 3 days and u wash real good, i dont c how petroleum is bad 4 u cus u getting it out yo hair and it aint stay 2 long 2 build up and u not using 2 or more petroleum based products at a time. most ppl dont moisturize wit products throughout the day so u only doing it prolly 1-2 times a day 4 2-3 days. just do what works 4 u

Petrolatum isn't going to harm you if you use a little.
Just make sure you wash it out.
